Hello. i am 13 years old with brachymetatarsia and i am planing on getting sugery using the external fixator on both feet..PLEASE ANSWER THE QUESTIONS BELOW.

*I was wondering what is the best time to get bracymetatarsia surgery using external fixator?? (do u have to be a certain age or wen your feet reaches its full growth)

*How long would i have to keep the pins in my feet?

*After sugery is done would my feet hurt real bad?

* Can i get both of them done at the same time?

* Would i have to wear anything over my feet after surgery is done? (such as a cask)

Pretty please help me i hate my feet so much! :X i love swimming but i dont never go cause im to embarrassed. I was invite to my friends party but i had to make an excuse cause of my feet and they were super mad at me.:( i love flip flops n shoes that show your feet but i would never wear them to my toes are fixed which is my dream.

Hello and welcome to the forum, i just had the ex fix procedure done 3 weeks ago. I have read that you should be pretty much done growing for the surgery, i am guessing 18. I am 21, you should consult with either dr. lee or the surgeon that will be performing it.

You would need to keep the ex fix for about 3 months, it all depends on the amount of time to distract the bone and that depends on how many mm your doctor allows you to turn each day. And then double that time for the bone to harden after the distraction.

After the surgery, you will experience pain, and when you turn the fixator in the latter weeks it typically increases but it is manageable especially with the pain meds.

Some doctors allow you to get both feet done at the same time, this doctor would probably also give the ok for walking on the feet after the surgery.

As for after the surgery, i was given an ace bandage to cover the entire foot except for the three big toes.

Hi I just wanted to ask where are you from? I don't mean to be nosey but I have a niece with your same name, age, and she has brachy on both feet.  :)

I am looking to have the surgery done at the end of the year.  I want to tell her about it but I have always felt she was comfortable with her feet, and I don't want to make her uncomfortable. She knows I have it on my left, but she has never come to me with any questions.
