Hey guys! I'm new here and I just wanted to share that i had my surgery today with the external fixator..i feel pretty good, no pain, just some pressure and a tingling feeling...I'm still trying to get the hang of these crutches (i live on the second floor!!) I should be turning within the next two weeks and hopefully everything goes well!

Hi,

I was wondering if they make you stay at the hospital for the night when you had surgery? I am getting my operation done september 23rd but they are not sure which technique they are going to use. I have to call the clinic next week and then they are going to discuss it with me because it's the first time they are going to do the operation in my country! (i live in belgium, where Brachymetatarsia is not really common) I hope it all turns out good!

Hey Baby_V

My surgery was a breeze..I was in the hospital at 7 am and out by 10:30 am. I dont think you will have to stay at the hospital with which ever technique they will use on you. If you are going to stay, then they will let you know. Good luck!

Hi Fernise 17
Congrads on your surgery, if you have any pictures please post them I am sure all of us would like to see them. How are you managing to get to the 2nd floor, are you able to put weight on your foot. Do you know at this point how many days you have to turn. thank you

hey rightandleft
I am not allowed to put absolutely any weight on my foot. I guess it depends on the doctors if they allow patients to bear weight or not. Tomorrow I will be having my first appointment post-op so hopefully I will find out how much I'll be turning. Getting around the house it getting better with the crutches and I've been practicing going up and down the stairs. Here are my pics

Hi, sorry for the late reply, I did not receive any email that somebody answered. Yep, I will be the very first person who ever did the surgery! From one side, I am a bit afraid, but it's a surgeon who is specialised in feet. He had heard of brachymetatarsia, and he has seen people with it, but he never performed the surgery. But on the other hand, I suffer from this a long long time! Since I was 10-11 yrs old. And finally after all these years, it will be fixed! I am going to loose my job...But I think it's worth it. And monday I have to call to my surgeon and then he will tell me what is going to happen, so I will keep you updated! I am hoping that he will do the ex fix because, I have it really bad, I think that i need to lenghten my toes 1.5 to 2 cm or so. And I think though the ex fix is more painfull, the one stage is harder to do for a surgeon, no? Cause I understand dr Lee is one of the only doctors who does the one stage. Well, I will see on monday. I'm going to be a pioneer :) And by the way sorry for my crappy English, I'm from Belgium and my language is Dutch :) But I'm trying to make my english understandable for you guys.

luckyleaf/rightandleft- i have to turn about 20 mm due to the fact that i had a short bone as well as a short toe. Turning is a breeze, I dont feel anything while turning..The only reason I've been feeling a lot of pain is because my toe was growing out in the wrong direction..my doctor thinks that its due to the tissue surrounding it that moved it. He fixed it by wrapping my toes around in bandage to straighten it out.
