I'm a 31 year old male.  I've had large bunions on both feet for as long as I can remember.  It's hard to tell but I think they have grown over the past 10 years.  The only time I have ever experienced pain is when I'm skiing but 5 years ago I had a pair of ski boots moulded to my feet which solved this problem.

As I have never experienced any pain with my feet, my reason for the op would be purely cosmetic.  My question is, should I just put up with having deformed feet?  I'm very active and to have my sport taken away from me for anything up to 3 months seems horrible!

Mike,

One could do the surgery if the bumps were really bad and disfiguring. However, ther are potential complications that could arise from surgery that you should be aware of (chronic stiff toe, infection). But these are fairly rare unless you don't follow instructions well. If your life allows yout od what you want to do and you don't care if the bump is there then don't have surgery. As long as your condition won't cause joint damage down the road I would not do anything.
